EFT Simple Treatment Protocol
EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques is a new way of working with possibly
the oldest known medical therapy - the meridian system of the human body.
Sometimes referred to as "people's power lines", this electro-magnetical
system has wide ranging impact on health, wellbeing and emotional states as
a result, and acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology, to mention but a few
meridian based therapies, have now achieved recognition even in western
medical circles.
EFT is a mind/body treatment system especially designed to remove negative
emotions by correcting the flow of energy through the meridians. The system
is based on an important discovery, namely that it is not thought that
"causes" negative emotions directly, but that there is an
intervening step.
A thought or a memory causes a disturbance in the electro-magnetic energy
system of the body which in turn is interpreted as a negative emotion. EFT
targets this intervenining step, corrects the energy imbalance experienced
and thereby simply removes the "emotional charge" from a memory, a
thought
or a concept.
What used to be painful and distressing to think about, becomes just a
simple thought again - no emotional charge, no upset, and, very importantly,
no more physical side effects that so often accompany negative emotions,
such as migraines, sleeplessness, muscle pains etc.
The very simplicity of the system makes EFT a content free process that is
very easy to learn, extremely user friendly, and highly effective as tens of
thousands of testimonials from both therapists and users from all around the
world attests. Now undergoing clinical trials too, EFT has caused an
unprecedented stir in the health care community.
EFT uses a general sequence of tapping on the end points of major body
meridians to unblock their flow and which covers all of the main meridians.
Usually, only one or two of them are blocked and are causing the problem in
a particular case, but the treatment procedure uses a single sequence which
covers them all by default - so even if a user has no knowledge at all of
anything to do with meridians or meridian points, the right point will be
covered every time. This basic treatment routine can be learned in a few
minutes and will allow a person to "tap away" their own negative
emotions
simply, easily and generally without any further help from a therapist.
Currently, members of meridian therapy organisations are involved in
teaching this routine to Red Cross workers in the Balkans. It is the ideal
self help tool because of its ease of use, and of course nothing further is
required by the way of resources than someone who knows how to use it, and a
human hand.
EFT is a great self help tool to truly release negative emotions, once and
for all, and effective first time in about 85% of the general population. It
is NOT recommended for use with or by clinically ill patients or patients
diagnosed with any mental illness unless supervised by a trained
practitioner.
Here is a basic EFT sequence for you to try out for yourself.
1. Choose something that makes you feel bad when you think about it. This
could be a phobia you might have (such as flying, heights, snakes, spiders,
dentists, or public speaking); an emotional issue (such as bereavement, love
pain, sadness, loneliness, unhappiness); or simply a situation that has
given you problems in the past (such as dealing with a particular type of
client, losing your temper, a particular habit by a family member that
upsets you, a general issue that "makes your blood boil" etc).
Please be sure to try this sequence on something that really feels bad - if
there is no emotion, you cannot release it successfully.
2. Find a phrase or a sentence that describes the problem succinctly and
clearly to you. As an example, we'll use an imaginary person who suffers
from love pain after their wife left them. He described his feelings like
this: "The worst thing is that I don't know how to go on without
her." This
gives us what we call the "opening statement" - I don't know how
to go on
without her.
3. Consider for a moment how bad this problem is, how bad does it make you
feel? and give it a score from 0 - 10, 0 being no emotion at all and 10
being unbearably painful. This is important so we can judge later how much
emotion was released.
4. Place your flat hand on your chest, either left or right, just above your
heart. Wait until you can feel the warmth of your hand through your clothes,
rub the hand round in a small circle and say the opening statement:
"Even though (insert statement of problem), I deeply and profoundly
love and
accept myself"
Repeat this opening statement three times in all, continuously rubbing the
chest area just below the collar bone.
In our example, the man would say, "Even though I don't know how I can
go on
without her, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself".
5. We now use a shortened version of the opening statement which is called
the Reminder phrase and tap lightly on the following spots (either side is
fine) as we say the Reminder phrase on each point once:
Start Of The Eyebrow - Where the bone behind your eyebrow turns into the
bridge of your nose.
Corner Of The Eye - On the bone in the corner of your eye.
Under The Eye - On the bone just below your eye, in line with your pupil if
you look straight ahead.
Under The Nose - Between you nose and your upper lip
Under The Mouth - In the indentation between your chin and your lower lip
Collarbone - In the angle formed by your collarbone and the breastbone
Under Arm - in line with a man's nipples on the side of the body
Thumb - all finger points are on the side of the finger facing towards you,
in line with the nail bed.
Index Finger
Middle Finger
Little Finger
Karate Chop Point - on the side of your hand, roughly in line with your life
line.
Gamut Point - on the back of your hand, just behind and between the knuckles
of your ring and little finger.
In the example, the man would have tapped on the points and said on each
one, "I don't know how I can go on without her".
When you're all the way through, take a deep breath in and out. Wait for
about 30 seconds, then say the original statement again and ask yourself to
give a new rating on the 0 - 10 scale.
If there is any emotion remaining, you do the sequence again, starting with
a new set up statement which reflects the change, such as, "Even though
there is some of this problem remaining, I deeply and profoundly accept
myself".
When there is only a little reminder, you can completely remove the rest of
the emotion with this form of statement, "I want to get over this
problem
entirely, and I deeply and profoundly accept myself."
